Climb to the “Roof of Africa” on this breathtaking 9-Day Lemosho + Northern Circuit Route. Starting on Kilimanjaro’s western side, this trail combines scenic beauty, gradual acclimatization, and fewer crowds. It’s the most complete route, circling around the mountain before approaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) from the north.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,250m) → Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)
Distance: 7 km | Hiking Time: 3–4 hrs
After registration at Londorossi Gate, start trekking through the rainforest zone. Spot colobus monkeys and enjoy the fresh forest air before reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp for your first night.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (2,820m) → Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)
Distance: 8 km | Hiking Time: 5–6 hrs
Climb steadily out of the forest and into heather and moorland. The trail opens up to wide views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru in the distance. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.
Day 3: Shira 1 (3,610m) → Moir Camp (4,200m)
Distance: 10 km | Hiking Time: 5–6 hrs
Trek across the Shira Plateau to Moir Camp, a remote site nestled at the base of Lent Hills. This day helps with acclimatization while showcasing vast alpine scenery.
Day 4: Moir Camp (4,200m) → Buffalo Camp (4,020m)
Distance: 12 km | Hiking Time: 6–7 hrs
Ascend out of the valley, enjoying views toward Kenya. Cross ridges and small valleys before arriving at Buffalo Camp on the Northern Circuit — one of Kilimanjaro’s most peaceful spots.
Day 5: Buffalo Camp (4,020m) → Third Cave Camp (3,870m)
Distance: 8 km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hrs
A gentle trek through alpine desert terrain brings you to Third Cave Camp. This area offers beautiful views of the plains and a chance to relax and acclimatize.
Day 6: Third Cave (3,870m) → School Hut (4,750m)
Distance: 6 km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hrs
A steady climb to School Hut, your base for the summit attempt. Have an early dinner and rest before your midnight push to Uhuru Peak.
Day 7: School Hut → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Distance: 14 km | Hiking Time: 10–12 hrs
Start the summit ascent around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, at sunrise — an unforgettable moment! After celebrating, descend slowly to Barafu Camp for overnight rest.
Day 8: Barafu Camp (4,640m) → Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Distance: 9 km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hrs
Descend through alpine desert and into the rainforest zone. Enjoy your last night on the mountain at Mweka Camp.
Day 9: Mweka Camp (3,100m) → Mweka Gate (1,640m)
Distance: 10 km | Hiking Time: 3–4 hrs
A relaxed descent through lush forest brings you to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Arusha or Moshi — marking the end of your incredible Kilimanjaro adventure.
